Speaker Coverage & 3/4-Point Positioning

This is the aiming/positioning side — where the calculators on the Time/Phase Alignment page handle the coverage math, this is the practical technique for getting the box pointed at the right part of the room in the first place.
Aim at the 3/4-Point
Rather than aiming a main hang dead-center at the whole audience depth, aim it so the on-axis coverage lands roughly three-quarters of the way back into the crowd. The front few rows sit inside the beam's near field regardless — they're always going to run hotter than the back — so optimizing for the 3/4-point gets you the most even coverage across the bulk of the audience instead of over-correcting for the front rows at the expense of everyone further back.
Stacking & Height
Getting the box up off the deck matters for two reasons: it clears the audience's own bodies (a speaker firing straight through a wall of people loses high frequency energy fast), and it changes the vertical angle needed to hit the 3/4-point without over-throwing past the back of the room. A flown or stacked position that's too low forces you to aim flatter and horizontally throw further than the box's pattern was designed for; too high and you start dumping energy over the top of the crowd into the back wall.
Reflection Tradeoffs
Side walls and rear walls both reflect energy back into the room, but they cause different problems. A side-wall reflection arrives from an angle the audience isn't expecting, smearing stereo image and adding comb-filtering-style coloration where the direct and reflected paths overlap. A rear-wall reflection travels further before it comes back, so it arrives later — audible as a distinct slap-back echo rather than a subtle coloration, especially in a room with hard, parallel rear surfaces.
There's no single fix for either — the practical response is usually a mix of aiming (keep the pattern's edge off hard reflective surfaces where you can), absorption where it's available, and, for rear-wall slap specifically, sometimes deliberately shortening system throw with front-fills or delays rather than trying to cover the whole depth from the mains alone.
